Home AV Direct · Showroom Guide

We talk to a lot of people who have been researching hi-fi online for weeks or months — reading reviews, watching YouTube comparisons, checking forum threads — and who haven't yet come in for a listen. Sometimes because they don't want to feel pressured. Sometimes because they're not sure what to ask. Sometimes because they feel like they need to know more before they can justify taking up someone's time.
This guide is for those people. Here's what actually happens when you come to our showroom in Hayes, and why it's worth doing before you buy anything.
There is no pressure
We want to say this clearly because it's the thing that puts people off most.
You don't have to buy anything. You don't have to make a decision on the day. You can come in, hear several systems, ask every question you have, and leave with nothing but a clearer sense of what you want. We'd rather you did that and came back three weeks later having thought it over than rushed into a purchase you weren't sure about.
This isn't a department store. We're a specialist retailer. Our reputation depends on people being happy with what they buy long after the sale.
What we have to listen to
We have three dedicated listening and demonstration spaces at our Hayes showroom. Our Hi-Fi listening room is set up with several systems at different price points — from accessible starter setups to high-end separates — so you can hear exactly what different budgets actually sound like. Our Home Cinema Room has a full Dolby Atmos installation so you can experience what proper surround sound feels like rather than reading about it. The LOFT, our third space sponsored by Klipsch, gives us room to demonstrate larger systems and installation setups.

Bring your own music
This is the single most valuable thing you can do.
Bring a playlist, an album, or even a specific track on your phone — something you know well, that you love, that you've listened to hundreds of times. Hearing familiar music on a system that does it justice is an entirely different experience from hearing something chosen by us.
We'll connect your phone or stream from Qobuz so you're hearing your music, not a demonstration track selected to impress. If you have a record that means something to you, bring that too.
What to ask
Ask whatever you want. There are no stupid questions in a hi-fi showroom. We've had customers ask us what the boxes are for, whether it matters which way the cables go, and why everything sounds better with the lights off (there may be something to that, actually). We've also had experienced audiophiles who want a very specific technical conversation about cartridge compliance and tonearm geometry.
All of it is fine. We enjoy this. It's why we do it.
How long does it take?
A typical listening session takes between 30 minutes and an hour and a half, depending on how far down the rabbit hole you want to go. If you're just beginning, half an hour is usually enough to hear the difference between what you're used to and what's possible. If you're seriously considering a purchase, take longer — compare options, ask questions, sit with it.
We're open Monday to Saturday, 9:15am to 6pm. You're welcome to walk in and listen without an appointment, though booking in advance means we can make sure a room is set up and a team member is available to give you proper time.
After the demo
If you decide you want to buy, we can sort everything that day — delivery, installation advice, finance if you need it. If you want to think about it, that's completely fine. If you go home and buy something else that you're happy with, that's fine too. We'd just rather you made a decision with your ears rather than from a spec sheet.
Finance is available — spread the cost over 12 or 24 months at 0% APR.
